Middletown House Fire
This evening Company 88 and mutual aid were alerted for a house fire with entrapment in Royalton Borough. Air 91-2 w/4 was alerted as part of the working fire assignment. Rescue 91 w/4 was dispatched as a replacement piece. Upon arrival the crews from Air 91-2 and Rescue 91 were assigned to the second floor to open up and check for extension. While operating on Division 2, there was a collapse of the 2nd floor into the 1st. Three members of Swatara Fire-Rescue were extricated from the 2nd floor by the remainder of the crew that was already out on a 2nd floor balcony. Once all personnel were back on the ground level, they immediately engaged in rescue operations for a Company 88 firefighter the was trapped on the 1st floor. Crews worked for about 40 minutes to free the firefighter. Crews remained on scene for about 3 hours to support operations. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Middletown Volunteer Fire Department, its injured firefighter and family and to the family of the occupant of the house.
