Swatara Township Fire & Rescue offers unique and fulfilling opportunities to volunteer and serve your community. If you are looking to fight fires, drive the different pieces of apparatus, support your department, or you are 14-17 years old and looking to learn more, we have just the membership for you.

Active Firefighters:

You can respond from home or stand by at the station, with live-in options providing free room and board. Interior and Exterior members can earn up to $5,000 annually through a point-based system emphasizing training, incident response, and staffing.

Interior Firefighter

The Interior Firefighter volunteer program offers hands-on emergency response experience from the fire station. Through comprehensive training and mentoring, it emphasizes teamwork, responsibility, and professional growth in fire suppression and rescue operations.

Exterior Firefighters

You will assist with equipment setup, traffic control, and scene management to support efficient emergency response. You will receive ongoing fire safety and incident support training and work closely with other responders to ensure effective teamwork during emergencies.

Drivers/Operators

As a trained volunteer who drives and operates our fire apparatus, you will receive specialized training in vehicle and pump operations and emergency driving techniques. Your role is critical in ensuring swift and safe incident response and maintaining operational readiness.

Administrative/Support Members

Administrative/Support Members play a crucial behind-the-scenes role. Volunteers provide essential administrative support, including record-keeping, logistics coordination, and community outreach. Your contributions aid the organization’s smooth operation, supporting frontline firefighters with their dedication and organizational skills.

Junior Firefighters

Tailored for ages 14-17, becoming a Junior Firefighter fosters teamwork and responsibility. Through professional fire/rescue training, it builds character, confidence, and self-esteem, emphasizing self-discipline and respect. Cadets gain practical experience in fire prevention, control, and emergency medical services through structured training, field trips, and developmental assignments.
